We are planning on starting our report presentations on Thursday. This date is subject to change depending on how things move along at the beginning of the week. The students are really enjoying their research. A few students have asked if they could bring in clear report covers. I love to see their enthusiasm and pride in their work. I am supporting whatever they would like to do to dress up their work presentation. I showed many of them this week how to grab screen shots in order to print pictures and diagrams they wanted to add to their report. I love the authentic and individualized teaching their curiosity and creativity allow.

Important Information/Dates:
Students in PDO-2nd grade will celebrate Week of the Young Child on May 4th-8th.  During this week, we celebrate the blessing of young children, especially all of the young children here at Zion!  As part of the celebration, there will be optional dress-up days this week.  The themes are listed below:

Monday:  Sports Shirt Day-wear a sports shirt of their favorite team
Tuesday:  Favorite Color Day
Wednesday:  Spirit Day - Wear red or white or Zion wear
Thursday:  Stripes Day
Friday:  Mismatched Socks Day

Please remember that these dress-up days are optional!  If your child chooses not to participate, he/she should be in Zion standardized dress (K-2nd grade).  If your child participates, he/she doesn't have to be in standardized dress.  It should be a fun week!

Zion’s Musical (Grades 1-3)  It’s called Adam’s Apple by Daniel A. Smith and we are performing it at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8.

Reflecting on our week:
The students are very enthusiastic about their science reports!
We began our poetry unit this week. We started with writing down everything we already knew, or thought we knew, about poetry.
As we learn about poetry this month we focus on fluency. This is something we work on all the time in second grade but during the last few months the students record themselves reading a passage and check their accuracy as they play back their recording. Our goal is to read like we talk.
