We are off to a great start in second grade! We will start to slowly add in subjects, expectations, and homework this week.

Spelling: Test Friday

Lesson 1

ip / ug/ aw:

dip, slip, flip, trip, drug, plug, tug, dug, paw, straw

Grammar: Test Friday

Parts of a sentence- start with a capital letter and end with an end mark. We will go over subject and predicate but students will not be tested on this until a later date).

Math:

Students will start to bring home math homework this week. Students should spend no more than 10-15 min. on their math homework. Please let me know if your child is exceeding this amount of time completing their homework.

Social Studies: Ch. 3 /Science Ch. 5:

These two chapters go together, so we will work on them interchangeably over the next few weeks. We will learn more about maps, landforms, and bodies of water.

Social Studies test will be over the compass rose on Friday.

Writing: Pre-writing

We will discuss and brainstorm ideas that help us write.

Important Information/Reminders:

Next Wednesday (8/31/16) we have a noon dismissal. Please note the after school care form in your child's Friday folder, if you need childcare, and return it to school on Monday so we can plan accordingly.

Back -to- School night is on Tuesday (8/23/16), from 6:30-8:00. There are three, 20 min. sessions you can visit. Please come hear all about second grade.

Cross Country starts after school on Tuesday (8/23/16). Please send your child to school with a change of clothes and a water bottle if they have signed up to participate in this after school activity.
