April 3rd-April 7th:

No Memory
No Spelling

Achievement Testing will start on Monday, April 3rd. I will not assign homework all week in order to allow time for students to relax and play at home. Testing week takes a lot of focus and concentration for extended periods of time. Rest and breakfast are a couple of key components to helping students do their best.

Friday is READ and FEED day!  To celebrate the conclusion of testing week, all 2nd graders will enjoy a relaxing day of reading.  Each student may bring one blanket/sleeping bag and a pillow or stuffed animal.  Please bring these items to school in a garbage bag.  Also, the kids may bring in a Ziploc bag with two snacks.  Sharing food is NOT allowed.  Water bottles are allowed.  Only water please.

Reflecting on our week:
This was an EXCITING week as we now have our own set of Ipads! Mr. Debrick has been working hard to find the funds to provide both second-grade classes with their own iPads. We integrate technology across the curriculum and it was growing more difficult to share the iPads back and forth.
These iPads arrived just in time for our class newspaper. Olivia K. asked me if she could work on a class newspaper and after we signed an agreement she went right to work. Her first copy was given to students early this week and it created a buzz in our classroom. Soon, many students wanted to contribute articles to the next newspaper. This type of child initiated learning is the best vehicle to attach my lessons and standards to in order to provide optimal learning. I have since created an assignment in google classroom that allows students to use google slides to collaboratively work on their articles. Olivia is the Cheif Editor and she will then work on putting each of those assignments into a newspaper format. This assignment is evolving and will allow students to problem solve as they work through the process. I will print out the newspaper as they finish. Their goal is to have one each week.

This past Wednesday our Faith Families learned that a small rock a can make a big ripple in a pond.  As Faith Families, we made activity bags for kids with cancer.  These bags were put together in a small amount of time but the 160 activity bags will make a big impact to those who receive them.  It is exciting to watch the students willingly spend their time sharing God’s love with children they will never meet.
We also celebrated Baptismal Birthdays in March and April.

* Belize Bible Count for our class= 35
