Science/Social Studies:
We will begin our Science unit on Earth. Focus for the week will be on identifying the three layers of earth and where fresh water and salt water can be found.

Important Information /Reminders:
Grades for Social Studies and Science will be based on a semester model, as opposed to quarterly, for the K-3rd-grade department. Grades in these subjects that have been earned during first quarter will be moved into the second quarter tab in Sycamore before report cards are issued. This will allow you to view your child's progress as the quarter develops in a particular subject yet, it will offer students more time to absorb and hopefully master the material in both content areas before a final grade is recorded.

Reflecting on our week:
This is a fun game called Pass the Plate. We use the framework of this game to practice phonics and vocabulary throughout the school year. In this picture, we are practicing words with r controlled clusters (br, tr, gr, fr, dr, cr, pr). This concept is based on musical chairs. We play fun music and pass paper plates, with keywords on them, around the circle until the music stops. I call out r controlled cluster and students with those words stand up and share the word with the group. It is a fun way to work on educational concepts as well as social-emotional skills.
