Important Information /Reminders:
*A reminder that we will have a half day on 9/27/17 with dismissal at noon.

The end of first quarter is quickly approaching. Please make sure your child is reading their AR book at least 4 nights per week. Several students are quickly approaching their goal! YAY! I send home AR reports often to help communicate with you about your child's progress. If you have any concerns please let me know.

Reflecting on our week:
Our class won an Echo Dot! Mr. Edward Akers, from Farmers Insurance, was generous enough to accept my submission to his request to help out teachers in the St. Louis area. Farmers Insurance and Mr. Akers wanted to give back to teachers by reviewing requests for classroom supplies.
Over the summer I was reading up on tech uses in the classroom and I ran across the use of this type of technology in early childhood. I sent an email along with a recording of an interview about how this works in the classroom. He was gracious enough to respond to my email and he delivered the Echo Dot to our classroom on Wednesday. We will use the Dot to help students edit their writing. It is great that students recognize misspelled words in their writing but it is sometimes difficult for them to move past this. They often can't type misspelled words close enough for the ipad to guess what they are trying to spell and using the dictionary is still time-consuming and difficult for them at this age. Some students shut down if they are struggling with spelling, and I'd like to eliminate that hurdle in the hopes to help them write more complex stories with larger vocabulary words. Often they will stick to the smaller words that they know how to spell thus are slower at showing the colorful language they would like to use.
We plan on keeping in touch with Mr. Akers to let him know how we like using the Echo Dot in the classroom.
Thank you, Farmers Insurance and Mr. Edward Akers!
