Our goal is to finish the 25 problem fact sheet in 2 minutes. At home, try to set a timer and see how your child is doing. If they are struggling to get them done in under 2 minutes there are apps (My Math App and Sushi Monster) that can help.

Science/Social Studies:
Ch. 5 /Ch. 4 What is a landform? What is geography?
On Tuesday students will start their assessment over landforms. They will be asked to create landforms out of clay and label them.
On Wednesday we will start to bring our units (Social Studies CH. 3 &4 and Science Ch. 5) to a close with a culminating activity/assessment. Students will create a map of Barefoot Island. I will trace their foot and they will add a title, compass rose, key, and landforms. They will be given a rubric ahead of time so they know the expectations.

Important Information /Reminders:
No school on Friday (9/15/17)- teachers have an in-service at CCLS

*Your child is a digital citizen. They are connected online and face a world filled with social media... but are they ready? Are you ready? Plan to attend our Parent Technology night on Thursday, September 21st. The evening starts at 5:30 with appetizers and adult beverages, at 6:30 we will Skype in expert Lee Crocket, and at 7:30 we will offer breakout sessions to learn more about how Zion helps your children navigate the digital world.

*Our chapel offerings are going to an organization called Friends of Kids with Cancer. I've attached a link to their website so you can learn a little more about what they do. We decided we would put up a heart in our room signifying every $10 we contribute as a class to the organization. This is not meant as a competition, it is simply a way for us to have a visual reminder of our goal and our joined effort in helping Zion raise $5,000 this school year.

Reflecting on our week:
We went on a Virtual Field Trip aboard the USS Nimitz.
It is the oldest commissioned aircraft carrier in our Navy (commissioned in 1975).

We learned a lot about our Navy and the importance of
lifelong learning, problem-solving, and teamwork.

After our field trip, we went over to the new STEM lab on campus
and made aircraft carriers and catapults.
Students first sketched designs in the classroom and then had a chance to test
designs and make modifications in the lab.

Testing our catapult designs...
Catapult materials offered: popsicle sticks, plastic spoons, and rubber bands.
The goal was to see which design could launch an airplane the farthest.
