Important Information /Reminders:
Congratulations to our spelling bee contestants- Lucas H. and Emily A.
Cooper L. is an alternate. The spelling bee will take place in the gym on Tuesday, May 15 at 2:00.
We will be collecting materials for a STEAM/coding project. Next week students will be charged with the task of creating a boat capable of transporting 5 lego people to an assigned destination. Students will then have to write the code for Electra to move through an obstacle course submerged in water. How EXCITING is that??? !! Students will spend time on Monday creating their vessel and Tuesday we will have a swimming pool filled up and ready to challenge the students' abilities and problem-solving skills. Below is a student-generated list of materials we might need. If your child has a specific item they want to bring in to use please just put it in a Walmart type bag with their name on it. The list is merely possibilities, so feel free to get creative, materials can be recycled. I don't expect anyone to have to purchase anything.
Possible materials:
cardboard, tin foil, sticks, rubber bands, straws, pipe cleaners, tape, toothpicks, string, meat trays, plastic/paper plates, cups, toilet paper tubes
On Friday, May 18th, students in grades 1-8 will participate in a “Faith Family Field Day”. We will eat a picnic lunch, play games, and have one last fun time with our Faith Families! Zion will be providing cheese pizza from Domino's, goldfish and water for the picnic lunch. If your child does not want that lunch or is unable to eat that lunch due to allergies, please have your child bring a cold lunch on Friday, May 18th. Your child will also be spending the afternoon out in the sun, so please apply sunscreen in the morning before your child comes to school. This will also be a SPECIAL SPIRIT DAY your child may wear a Zion/LHS t-shirt and non uniform bottoms! Thanks!
Reflecting on our week:
A local artist, Wayne Trinklein, came for a visit on Wednesday to share his love of life and art. Students got a chance to try their hand at creating wire trees. Check out his work at http://waynetrinklein.com/
